U.S. Initial Jobless Claims Total 3.17 Million in Latest Week

The number of Americans applying for initial unemployment benefits totaled 3.17 million in the week ending May 2, the U.S. Labor Department said Thursday, remaining at historic levels even as many parts of the country start to reopen.
