Indian indices opened lower on August 16 with Nifty below 19,350.

The Sensex was down 285.44 points or 0.44 percent at 65,116.48, and the Nifty was down 100.10 points or 0.52 percent at 19,334.40. About 1053 shares advanced, 1142 shares declined, and 159 shares unchanged.

Hindalco Industries, HDFC Bank, Divis Labs, Eicher Motors and HDFC Life were among major lowers on the Nifty, while gainers were Infosys, Tech Mahindra, ITC, HCL Technologies and Larsen and Toubro.
