Despite a surge in the flow of gas to U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities, prices dropped. This drop is linked to the substantial increase in U.S. gas production, which was a delayed response to high prices in 2022. However, the subsequent price slump has led to a more pronounced slowdown in output growth.
In August 2023, dry gas production rose by just 3% compared to the same month in the previous year, marking a significant deceleration from the nearly 7% growth seen a year ago. Low futures prices have forced the industry to adapt to a challenging environment.
