MARKET NEWS UPDATE;
Kim Jong Un says he will visit Seoul this year in what would be a historic step toward bringing the Korean peninsula closer to peace.
The North Korean leader met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in in Pyongyang, where Kim agreed to further steps toward giving up his nuclear weapons, including receiving visits from inspectors.
The two leaders also agreed on a joint bid to host the 2032 Summer Olympics.
On Twitter, Donald Trump described the news as “Very exciting!”
Bloomberg’s Kyung Bok Cho says security will be a big issue if the visit goes ahead: “Kim Jong Un visiting Seoul is such a tantalizing thought. Security will have to be very tight; there are plenty of people who would take to the streets to protest against his regime.”
“And unlike Pyongyang or Singapore, Seoul has a culture of open political protest.”
