Natural gas also known as NG is a naturally occurring element hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting primarily of methane, but commonly including varying amounts of other higher alkanes, and sometimes a small percentage of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, or helium. Once considered an ineffective byproduct of oil production, natural gas is steadily finding a foothold in today’s world. Economical, environmentally friendly and efficient, natural gas is the cleanest-burning fossil fuel among all and technologies are improving the way it is captured, transported and distributed. According to statistics published in 2008 by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, 97% of the world’s natural gas reserves reside outside of the U.S., yet 26% of the country’s energy comes from natural gas.
